The deepest hole

The deepest hole ever dug to date was part of a research project in the Kola Peninsula of Russia, near the Norwegian border and was drilled between 1989 and 1992 when they had to stop at a depth of 12,672km (7.62 miles) because the drill bit kept melting in the underground temperatures of 300c.

For comparison the Earths crust is on average 34km thick so we haven’t really scratched the surface yet in our Jules Verne search.
